Who We Are

The Justice and Peace Center opened its doors on December 8, 2006. Prior to that, the Sisters of St. Joseph responded to justice issues through the Corporate Witness Committee. When it became obvious that a committee could no longer sustain the research and communication needed to help Sisters know and advocate for justice issues, the Justice and Peace Center was established.
At the Justice and Peace Center, Sr. Christina Meyer and Sr. Esther Pineda are attentive to state and national legislation that affects all of us including the earth. Sr. Carolyn Teter worked in the office before moving to Concordia in 2009. We are also mindful of other organizations with whom we can collaborate to aid the least among us.
The office has an Advisory Committee composed of the following Sisters of St. Joeph:
▪ Christine Doman (El Paso, TX)
▪Pat McLennon (Concordia, KS)
▪Virginia Pearl (Great Bend, KS)
▪Marilyn Stahl (Wichita, KS)
Carolyn Teter, (Concordia, KS)
Sisters of St. Joseph throughout the world
▪Carm Thibault (Salina, KS)
▪Judy Stephens (Leadership Council Liaison)
Regina Ann Brummel (Leadership Council Liaison)
▪Chris Meyer (JP Center)
▪Esther Pineda (JP Center)
The spirit and charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph propels us to be attentive to and concerned for the most vulnerable among us. Thus, when people needed health care, we founded hospitals. When children needed to be educated, we opened schools. When the elderly needed proper care, we started nursing homes. When human rights were being violated, we opened our doors and sought ways to address the injustice. Whenever and wherever human spirits search for meaning, we are there.
